I started with a 35mm Canon A-1 film camera from about 1980 until I got my first digital camera in 2003.  I had always been a hobbyist photographer until I retired in 2013.  I then started doing freelance photography after being encouraged by family and friends.  I now use Nikon digital SLR cameras exclusively, and I generally take an informal photojournalist approach, but I also take formal posed photos when that is appropriate.  I try to use natural settings and lighting when I can because I think people are more relaxed and natural in those conditions.  Most of my clients leave much of the setup to me, but some have very specific ideas about what they want.  I welcome both types because it allows me to be creative, yet challenges me to meet a clients ideas and preferences.  If you are trying to get pictures that are not just snapshots, while staying within a tight budget, I might be just who you are looking for. 

I photograph people during events that are important to them.  Birthdays, graduations, weddings, anniversaries, reunions, and other special things like senior pictures or engagement photos.  I have done pet photos and photos of people enjoying their favorite hobby.  In addition, I strive to follow any specific requests in order to get the photos as you envisioned them.  I always provide an edited photodisc so you can have as many copies and sizes of whichever photos you choose.  For weddings, I also make photo slideshow DVD's that will play in your DVD player, complete with the music of your choice (if you provide it on CD).  I will also have prints made for you if that is your preference.  I welcome engagement sessions and rehearsals, because they are a great way to meet and become more familiar with eachother before the wedding.
